The Lady Gaga meat dress was one of the over-the-top outfits worn by Lady Gaga who won multiple awards at the MTV Video Music Awards. Gaga’s outfits shocked and even offended some, but Katy Perry is not among that group, as reported at MTV.
Are Lady Gaga’s fashion statements just fashion statements or is Gaga trying to convey something more? The Lady Gaga meat dress was probably the most shocking of the many outfits we’ve seen on the 24-year-old pop sensation. But according to Gaga, the dress was more than just meat. Said Gaga about the Franc Fernandez creation, “It has many interpretations, but for me this evening, it’s ‘If we don’t stand up for what we believe in, we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re gonna have as much rights as the meat on our bones.’” Lady Gaga, who has been outspoken about her thoughts on gay rights, brought men and women to the MTV Video Music Awards who were discharged from the military due to Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
Over-the-top but doing it right says Katy Perry
According to Katy Perry, Lady Gaga’s outfits may be shocking, but they’re not just shocking for shocking sake. “The costumes are the bells and whistles and bells and whistles can be really fun, but you have to have the spine, and I think that with Gaga, she’s got the spine and she’s got the costume,” said Perry, who was particularly appreciative of Gaga’s Alexander McQueen dress. “I thought the Alexander McQueen outfit was stunning,” said Perry.
The 25-year-old Katy Perry, herself, has been known to appear in outfits that others may not have the balls to wear. Whether she has fuzzy dice all over her dress, a big picture of Obama plastered on her front or a carousel as a skirt, she has branded herself as the California girl who just wants to have fun. As serious as Lady Gaga wants to be with her Lady Gaga meat dress? No. Katy Perry has never been that deep and doesn’t pretend to be. But at least she sticks to a theme.
Check out these amazing shots (via cocoperez.com) of Lady GaGa and Marc Jacobs covering V Magazine’s Fall 2010 issue! The shots were taken by Mario Testino, and Lady GaGa was styled by (of course!) Nicola Formichetti! GaGa appears as Lady Liberty in the shoot, and the issue focuses on New York. We think GaGa looks amazing, what do you little monsters think?
Remember when Lady Gaga appeared on the cover of V magazine all that time ago? Well, we’re one year on and how things have changed – namely her hair on at least 300 of those 365 days, though we failed to keep an actual count.
To celebrate how Gaga’s grown over the past 12 months, Nicola Formichetti, the singer’s stylist and best friend, has picked his favourite fashion looks from the Lady in the latest issue of V magazine that chart her rise to pop super-star, style icon and avant garde princess.
The new issue’s out tomorrow, September 2nd, but you can head to vmagazine.com to take a sneak peek
